U.S.-based electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian has updated the infotainment software in its R1T truck and R1S SUV to display passers-by as zombies and cyclists as witches. The Halloween may have passed, but the feature is here to stay, so let’s have a look.
The video demonstrates how the cars recognize pedestrians on the road. Once identified, they show up on the main display with outstretched hands, walking in a lurching manner like in a horror movie. A kid in the back seat does his best to pretend these are real zombies and witches.
You’d think that would be all, but it isn’t. The R1S has an ‘open tailgate’ warning among its standard features. When the Halloween Mode is turned on, the warning is replaced with a spooky animation of a pumpkin falling out of the trunk.
