Rolls-Royce revives coachbuilding division for discerning customers

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has brought back its custom body workshop for clients willing to break free from the limitations of modern car manufacturing.

The four-year-old Rolls-Royce Sweptail is considered the first step towards the roots: the car combined unique bodywork with a Phantom Coupe powertrain, which was already discontinued at the time of release.

According to CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös, the clients of the marque appreciate it for the vast customization opportunities first and foremost, but some find these still lacking. Starting now, the company will be offering car parts manually crafted in accordance with the buyers’ wishes.

Müller-Ötvös reminded about the eighth-gen Phanton sedan, which was the first production car to utilize the Architecture of Luxury, a brand-new platform that supported scaling its dimensions up and down as needed. The platform proved successful and later became the basis for the Cullinan SUV and the Ghost sedan. The freedom is only going to grow now that a personalization plan is in action, only limited by basic considerations of construction and engineering.
