Rolls-Royce has introduced the audience of the 2018 Farnborough Air Show to a conceptual aerial vehicle it called the EVTOL.
The five-seat “flying taxi” comes equipped with six electric motors and can also be used for freight shipments, the manufacturer claims.
The EVTOL can cover a distance of up to 800 kilometers on a single battery charge, accelerating to 400 km/h (250 mph). This is nearly a half of a Boeing 747 cruiser speed. True to its name, the vehicle features vertical takeoff and landing.
Rolls-Royce plans to begin extensive tests of its new EVTOL in a year and a half. It looks like the company is seriously going to begin mass-producing this kind of aircraft.
Apart from EVTOL, Rolls-Royce is currently supervising another similar project, called the Aston Martin Volante Vision Concept. The three-seat unmanned aerial drone should enter production in 2020.
