John Hilton, ex-Chief Technical Director of the Renault Fomula 1 team, founded his own startup called Lunaz a while ago. Soon, the company will begin producing electric versions of classical British cars.
A 1953 Jaguar XK120 and a 1961 Rolls-Royce Phantom V will be the first to roll out of the workshop. Both will undergo complete restoration and modernization prior to being equipped with electric powertrains. The Jaguar XK120 will be getting dual electric motors jointly rated at 380 hp (283 kW) and 700 Nm (516 pound-feet) of torque, connected to a 80-kWh traction battery. The Rolls-Royce will take advantage of a larger 120-kWh battery, as well as stronger engines.
All electric classics will get regenerative brakes, anti-skid systems, brand-new suspension and steering, and the full range of electronic driving aids. Interestingly enough, the company plans to modify the original instrument panels to display charge levels and other important status information aside from the usual things (speed, RPM, etc.). Each car will be getting a modern entertainment system with a touchscreen display.
Hilton emphasizes that most changes to the cars will be fully reversible.
