Rolls-Royce considers switching the Phantom to pure electric power

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös said he couldn’t rule out the possibility of releasing a fully electric car with RR branding – if the analysts find it viable.

The media believe that the Phantom, which changed generations three years ago, is the likeliest candidate for electrification. The company’s younger clients show increasing interest in EVs, and the manufacturer is ready to oblige.

If it gets the green light, the electric Phantom should enter production a few years from now. Judging by the 2011 Phantom 102EX Concept, Rolls-Royce already has some experience with making battery cars, although that one only had 200 kilometers (124 miles) of range and never made it into mass production.

The current Rolls-Royce Phantom generation ships with a 6.75-liter twin-turbo V12 engine paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
