Rolls-Royce may revive the Seraph, but in what way?

Rolls-Royce has applied for a ‘Seraph’ trademark in Cars and Car Parts category in Great Britain, leading many to assume that a new luxury vehicle is in the works. But what could it be?

The original Silver Seraph – which you can see in our gallery and the video here – complemented the Rolls-Royce range in 1998. Bentley and RR were essentially one and the same company back at the time, so the luxury saloon was nearly identical to the Bentley Arnage. Its main advantage was a V12 engine under the hood instead of the Arnage’s V8. Production ended in 2002.

This leaves open the question of why the British automaker would want to bring back the name. The later RR Ghost fills in the niche of the Silver Seraph just fine, so having a second model would only cannibalize sales. Media tend to agree that the lineup is missing a mid-size SUV – a smaller vehicle than the Cullinan.
