Rolls-Royce has introduced the unique Manchester Ghost sedan. The city played a major role in the history of the car brand, but this is the first time the design department dedicated a whole car to it.
It was in Manchester that Charles Rolls and Henry Royce met on May 4, 1904 and agreed to establish a car company. Their original goal was to produce ‘the world’s best car’, which is how Rolls-Royce came to be. One has to wonder why the company had never celebrated the fact before.
The one-off Ghost saloon has bees depicted on its c-pillars and seat backs. The bee is one of the attributes of the city of Manchester, praising the diligence of its residents. The color scheme is black and white with vivid turquoise inserts inside and out and matching brake calipers.
The passenger’s side of the dashboard sports a laser engraving composed of 10,000 light spots. The company says this is what the city looks like from space. The brightest spot is Modland Hotel, where Rolls met Royce on that day nearly 119 years ago.
The rear bench back has the names of the city’s main landmarks embroidered on it, and there is also the word ‘Manchester’ hidden in binary code in the cabin. It pays homage to the world’s first electronic computer based on the principle of shared storage of data and applications. It was invented in Manchester and launched 75 years ago.
It is unknown how much the exclusive vehicle cost to create, but we suspect that it was made for a client who paid in advance.
