Rolls-Royce promises to offer EVs at the same price point as ICE cars

Rolls-Royce is working to electrify every single model on its lineup within the next several years, and CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös just assured Autocar that prices are going to stay on the same level.

He said that the company determined pricing based on the market status of the car, rather than its associated production costs. This means that, for instance, an all-electric Rolls-Royce Phantom will set you back between £375,000 and £400,000 – same as the gas-powered version.

The Rolls-Royce fleet is set to become completely electric by the beginning of the next decade. According to Müller-Ötvös, increasingly strict environmental legislation in the EU and UK isn’t the only reason. The market wants the same thing: the target audience becomes younger and more interested in EVs with each passing year. Apparently, an average Rolls-Royce owner is only 43 years old right now. Furthermore, an increasing number of Rolls-Royce owners say that they had an experience with EVs.

The Spectre Coupe shown in our gallery and the video here will be the British luxury marque’s first incursion into the electric car market. It is expected to debut next year and become a successor of sorts to the Wraith model.

Rolls-Royce has no intentions to develop any new ICE-powered cars. The current lineup will be updated, but the Ghost sedan that debuted a year and a half ago shall remain the brand’s last new ICE vehicle.
