Video: Rolls-Royce EV tested at -40 Celsius

Rolls-Royce has been putting its upcoming all-electric coupe named Spectre through serious trials lately. The pre-production sample was subjected to temperatures as low as -40 ºC (incidentally, -40 ºF) to make sure all the mechanical and electronic bits were functioning as intended.

In addition to sharing a new video and photos with us, the British luxury automaker revealed a few interesting details. For instance, the traction battery weighs around 700 kilograms (1,543 lbs) and serves a dual purpose. Aside from providing power, it also acts as a noise-proofing element.

According to the manufacturer, the Rolls-Royce Spectre has only completed one-fourth of its tests. Prototypes will have to cover at least 2,500,000 km (1,550,000 miles) before they can go into production. With this in mind, the company expects to make the first deliveries in late 2023.
