Rolls-Royce reports 300+ EV orders in the USA alone

The British luxury automaker has reported registering over 300 preorders for its first electric car, the Spectre, in the United States even before its live debut.

The corresponding statement was made by the company CEO, Thorsten Müller-Ötvös, in his recent interview with CNBC. He emphasized that the vehicle has only been previewed online so far, with only select parameters disclosed and the shipments set to start no sooner than the end of 2023.

Müller-Ötvös pointed out that it meant much for the company to get hundreds of preorders from people who never had the opportunity to see the car in person. Later on, many of these people paid a visit to the company HQ and were given a live demo of the car. He said the reason the Spectre was so popular was that it was the marque’s most advanced vehicle in its entire history.

It is unknown what the production volumes will be. Certain hints from the Rolls-Royce CEO let us know that the company expected the Spectre to become its third best-selling vehicle in the current lineup – at least, during the initial sale. In 2021, the company has sold 5,586 cars and called it an all-time high.

How much the Spectre costs also remains unknown, but the company promises to keep it between the Cullinan and the Phantom, implying something in the general vicinity of U.S. $400,000.

Dual electric motors drive the wheels of the Spectre with 585 PS (577 hp / 430 kW) and 900 Nm (664 lb-ft) of torque, letting it sprint 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in roughly 4.5 seconds. The manufacturer-rated driving range on a charge amounts to 520 km (323 mph).
