No Kidding: Rolls-Royce puts Spectre through 400 years’ worth of road tests

Rolls Royce has officially proclaimed the testing phase over for its Spectre EV. The British luxury marque’s first battery car went through what amounts to 400 years of active use, covering 2,500,000 kilometers (~1,550,000 miles) divided across several prototypes.

The company admitted that the test program was its most difficult on record. Pre-production Spectre copies were driven to some of the world’s remotest locations ranging from Arctic Circle to mountain passes and scorching deserts. The temperature fluctuated from -40 to +50 degrees Celsius (-40…+122 ºF).

During the large-scale trial run, the test crew was able to fine-tune 25,000 functions of the vehicle and establish over 141,000 variables for optimizing engine performance based on external conditions. It also took the prototypes for a drive around their intended destination areas – the elite districts of the world’s biggest cities.
