Tuatara is the world’s fastest-going street-legal car

SSC North America will arrive at the Concours d’Elegance in Pebble Beach, California (previously titled “Shelby Supercars”) with a production-ready prototype vehicle named Tuatara. The manufacturer claims its latest creation is the fastest-going street-legal car in existence.

“Tuatara” is apparently a name of a lizard species. On an interesting note, the original Tuatara Concept debuted as early as 2011. The manufacturer released a single teaser pic of the upcoming vehicle in the beginning of 2018, but refused to provide any sort of technical details.

Rumors persist that the new Tuatara by SSC North America will ship with a 7.0L dual-turbo engine capable of producing nearly 1,370 hp (1,020 kW) on normal gasoline and up to 1,700 hp (1,268 kW) on racing-grade fuel. If proven true, the car will be able to accelerate 0-100 km/h (0-60 mph) in 2.5 seconds and ultimately reach as high as 445 km/h (277 mph).

The price of the new SSC Tuatara was estimated at $1,000,000 in 2011, but could change since then.
