Viritech announces world’s first fuel cell hypercar

MIRA, a technological site in Great Britain that provides facilities to 40 automotive businesses, has signed a partnership with Viritech, a company that intends to build the world’s first production hypercar powered exclusively by hydrogen fuel cells.

Based on the images, the Viritech Apricale has a glass dome, a cockpit, side intakes and rooflines that strongly resemble those of Koenigsegg cars, even though the project is said to be entirely independent. The company says a proprietary hydrogen-electric powertrain will be able to slam all four wheels with 1,115 PS (1,100 hp / 820 kW).

The powertrain will later be available for purchase by manufacturers of cars, motorboats, yachts and planes. The hypercar series itself will be first and foremost a publicity stunt to sell the powertrain, although 25 production units will reach the market priced from £1,500,000.

The first prototype should emerge next year, and sales are penciled in for 2023.
