Google’s rival from China unveils a robotic car concept

Baidu, the leading internet search provider in China, has shown us a completely autonomous vehicle concept during the annual Baidu World Expo.

The self-driving, pod-like car has gull-wing doors and a giant infotainment display spanning the entire dashboard. Powered by Kunlun 2 chipset and AI technology, the on-board computer has immense computational power.

Baidu stressed that other companies would be able to buy the chipset and produce cars based on it. It admitted that it still hasn’t decided whether to become a car manufacturer itself (and if so, then when). The production of the microchips has already started, however, and Baidu expects to get millions of USD in profits from these alone.

Aside from the above, the Chinese IT giant has unveiled Luobo Kuaipao, a new taxi app coming to replace Apollo Go. Users of the new application will be able to hail autonomous cabs equipped with the Kunlun 2 chipset.
