In summer this year, an anonymous investor bought out an unfinished car design from National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS), the current rights holder for the SAAB brand. At the recent eCarExpo event in Gothenburg, Sweden, the identity of the investor has been revealed.
According to Jalopnik, an automotive startup named EV Electra purchased the unfinished electric sedan project called Emily GT with an intention to see it through to the mass market.
According to Jihad Mohammad, CEO and founder of the Lebanese startup, the company was planning to branch out to Sweden soon and eventually begin producing the Emily GT at the ex-SAAB factory in Trollhättan. In all likelihood, he referred to the industrial site currently owned by NEVS. Other than that, he refrained from comments but said other investors were welcome to join in on the project.
The EV Electra already has some electric car designs of it own in the portfolio, as well as some production capacities in Turkey. According to the executives of the company, the Emily GT may go into production in that country as well once its design is finalized. In doing so, EV Electra hopes to highlight the international status of the car.
