Andreas Richter, from Germany, is planning on resurrecting the legend that is the Saab 900 Turbo. The restomod only exists in the form of early engineering sketches and 3D rendered images right now, but the tuner plans to release the finished car in late 2024, CarBuzz reports.
The project is called ‘Saab 900 DTM Turbo’. As you may know, the Swedish car brand has never taken part in the DTM racing series. Still, Richter wants his creation to look like the racecars from that series. A closer look at the pictures reveals a large spoiler, widened wheel arches and air intakes in the headlights, to name just a few things. The interior has a semi-cage installed.
In all likelihood, the body panels will be fabricated anew from composite materials. Richter hasn’t commented on it yet and hasn’t mentioned any chassis modifications. Still, the power-to-weight ratio of the restomod should be better than that of the latest Honda Civic Type R.
Power for the project will be sourced from a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine based on the original one, but with new cylinder heads, valves and other components. The performance numbers aren’t quite there yet, but Richter says the engine will rev up to 7,500 RPM.
