Check out a special Saleen S1 prototype

This Saleen S1 is a fully drivable prototype sports car and the only one of its kind, according to the seller on eBay. It went up on sale during the holidays but failed to meet reserve with the top bid at $150,100.

Saleen introduced its S1 sports car series back in 2017, initially intending to produce 1,500 such vehicles priced from $120,000 each. The production has yet to begin, however.

In the meantime, the S1 has appeared at numerous shows and exhibitions as an engineless life-size mockup of the real car. The seller of the example shown here claims it was Saleen’s only working prototype with an actual drivetrain installed.

The car utilizes a 2.5-liter turbocharged engine mounted behind the two-seat cabin. It delivers 457 PS (451 hp / 336 kW) and 624 Nm (460 lb-ft) of torque to the rear wheels by means of a six-speed manual transmission. Thanks to an all-carbon body and an aluminum chassis, the car weighs as little as 1,218 kilos (2,685 pounds).

With roughly 1,600 km (1,000 miles) under its belt, it is also in excellent condition. The listing points out that it neither street-legal nor certified for track driving. Making it legal is not an option, either, because it lacks a VIN number.

According to the lot description, the car belongs to a collector and Saleen investor who decided to free up space in their garage for other vehicles.
