Saleen S281 Coupe crosses the auction block

Saleen may have fallen on hard times now, but it is still widely recognized as a radical Ford Mustang customizer with a distinct vision. One of its cars is up for grabs at Bring-a-Trailer right now with only 22,530 km (14,000 miles) of use to show for being nearly two decades old.

The car relies on its standard 4.6-liter V8 for propulsion, but the engine benefits from a screw-type supercharger, a performance air filter and an ECU upgrade. All of the above enables it to hit the rear wheels with 380 PS (375 hp / 279 kW) through a five-speed manual gearbox.

The exterior is finished in a glossy dark red shade with redesigned bumpers at both ends, extended side sills and a trunk spoiler. Highlighting the new design are 18-inch chrome rims shod in Bridgestone Potenza Sport rubber. The car makes use of new sway bars and Racecraft shocks and springs.

New things in the cabin boil down to a power-adjustable driver’s seat, a CD changer and a plaque bearing the tuner’s name in the middle spot.
