When it released the Sky convertible in the mid-2000s, Saturn’s greatest concern was staying relevant on the hopelessly changed market. It didn’t quite succeed, but the car itself developed quite a fan base and is still considered a beautiful, if flawed, exotic. This tuned 2007MY example can be bought in the USA right now for a moderate asking price.
On the outside, this Sky model lacks any kind of roof, even a removable one, and has two small windshields installed where a large solid front glass used to be. The modification completely changes the way the car is perceived, but the seller gives no info on the tuner responsible for it, unfortunately.
Things are every bit as interesting under the hood, where a 2.4-liter naturally aspirated four-pot usually toils producing 180 PS (178 hp / 132 kW) and 224 Nm (165 lb-ft) of torque. The feeble engine was probably the main point of criticism in the original car when it debuted (it was quite pricey). This particular example, on the other hand, conceals a giant six-liter V8 in its engine bay rated at roughly 400 PS (394 hp / 294 kW) and 540 Nm (400 lb-ft) of torque. A manual transmission sends the momentum to the rear axle.
Certified Motors asks $30,000 for the one-off Saturn Sky Base that no longer has anything ‘base’ about it.
