Scotland-born Munro e-SUV turns into a pickup for the highlands

Budding automaker Munro has unveiled its second production car, an electric pickup truck named the MK_1. It uses the same units and components as the MK_1 SUV (see video), but gives up some cabin space for a truck bed. The premiere took place at the recent Live North 2023 expo in the UK.

Like its off-roader counterpart, the truck is targeted towards customers who need a daily-driver workhorse – construction workers, farmers, utility workers and miners. It should also find loyal fans among fishing, hunting and off-road driving enthusiasts.

The bed isn’t too big, but it can still fit a Euro-pallet with up to 1,050 kilograms (2,315 pounds) of cargo on it. The towing capacity is estimated at 3,500 kilograms (around 7,700 pounds).

With an 82.4-kWh traction battery on board, the truck can cover 305 km (190 miles) on asphalt or go on for 16 hours away from the trodden paths. All ratings are WLTP-standard.

In its top spec called Performance, the model gets dual motors jointly rated at 380 PS (375 hp / 280 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque. It reaches 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.9 seconds. Those who don’t need that much power may opt for one of the two other specs, Utility or Range. Both bring 299 PS (295 hp / 220 kW) to the table.

In terms of practicality, the Munro MK_1 is designed to wade through water 800 mm (31.25 inches) deep and can take on nearly any terrain with its 480 mm (18.75 inches) of ground clearance. Three differential locks and a transfer case are included.

Prices in Great Britain start from £50,000 before VAT. The manufacturer says it has already received more than 200 reservations. At first, the company plans to be making just 200–300 EVs per year.
