James Glickenhaus, the CEO of Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus, said his company was working on a wide range of improvements for its Baja Boot buggy.
A few days ago, the all-terrain car won the Baja 1000 Rally Raid in the SUV category, beating the Ford Bronco R to the finish line. Hold your applause, though. The Bronco was its only rival this time around, and it has fallen out of the race completely due to an engine cooling failure the crew turned out unable to fix. Furthermore, the Boot ranked second in the overall standing… That is, second from the last. It has barely managed to complete the race in nearly 34 hours, whereas this year’s winner – a Ford Raptor – has managed in 16 hours 10 minutes.
But Glickenhaus isn’t leaving the things as is. He said the company would build a new Boot for the 2020 Baja race, armed with a superior 900-hp (671-kW) engine, permanent AWD, tweaked chassis and suspension, and extreme 42-inch wheels.
