SCG 007 hypercar revealed at last

Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus, a U.S.-based niche carmaker founded by James Glickenhaus, said last year that it would like to participate in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. It supplemented the announcement with some early 3D renderings of its WIP hypercar (see video), as well as some teaser pics later on. Today, the SCG 007 shed its last wraps.

It has to be said that the production car looks little like its initial version. Then again, the company built it to best the iconic Ford GT40 by becoming the fastest U.S.-made Le Mans vehicle in history, so optimizations were inevitable.

Technical information is scarce at best: many suspect the racecar to hide a 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine under that hood, but its performance, weight, top speed and other specifics remain subject to guesswork.

SCG will only piece together two such cars: one for the Le Mans, another one to lease to the interested teams. Eventually, though, it plans to produce 25 street-legal copies worth approximately $1,000,000 each.

For those who missed the news, the Le Mans race regulations will change next year to make participation easier and more affordable, among other things. Aston Martin, Koenigsegg, Lamborghini, and Toyota have already expressed their interest.
