Seat began designing a new urban car based on the MEB Lite platform this spring, which Volkswagen Group will release under multiple brands around 2025. In the meantime, the company will attend the IAA Mobility on Sept. 7-12 with a design study named UrbanRebel.
The car will only be shown in digital form. Judging by the video, it has triangular headlight units, a prominent hood, a rather elaborate rear wing, and LED lights all around. Overall, everything looks the same as on an early sketch posted in the spring.
Production is scheduled to take place at the Seat factory in Martorell, Spain. As for the market positioning, the UrbanRebel is envisioned as a successor to the Seat Mii electric, Skoda Citigoe iV and Volkswagen e-up!. All three compacts have 83 PS (82 hp / 61 kW) and around 210 Nm (155 lb-ft) of torque. WLTP-rated driving range for the trio maxes out at 260 km (161.6 miles).
It is expected that Volkswagen will badge the production car as ‘ID.1’ or ‘ID.2’. Its starting price probably won’t exceed €25,000.
Cupra’s first EV – the Born – will hit production in Zwickau, Germany next month, with Tavascan EV set to follow in three years’ time.
