Seat has announced a gasoline/CNG-powered Ibiza TGI minicar

The Spanish car manufacturer Seat has revealed some of the information concerning a new edition of its Ibiza hatchback. The car will be shipped with a 1.0L TGI engine which can use compressed natural gas (CNG) as well as gasoline.

According to the press release, such fuel versatility is owing to new pistons and valves as well as other engine modifications. Powered by CNG, the five-door mini hatchback exercises up to 90 hp and 160 Nm of torque; on regular gasoline, it is capable of 95 hp and 115 Nm. Performance may differ between versions, the manufacturer states.

The new Seat Ibiza TGI can accelerate 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 11.8 seconds and ultimately reach 181 km/h (112.5 mph). Is comes equipped with two fuel tanks – for gasoline and CNG, respectively. Remarkably enough, it can travel as far as 400 km (~250 mi) on CNG alone, or up to 1,200 km (~750 mi) when both of its tanks are full.
