Czech car manufacturer Skoda has unveiled the Kamiq, its most affordably priced crossover SUV to date, at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland. Let us have a closer look at it.
The car measures 4,241 mm (13.91 ft.) long, 1,793 mm (5.88 ft.) wide and 1,531 mm (5.02 ft.) tall with 2,651 mm (8.7 ft.) of inter-axle spacing. Its minimal trunk size amounts to 400 liters (14.1 cubic feet), but expands to 1,395 liters (49.25 cu.ft.) with the rear seats folded.
The Kamiq SUV utilizes the popular MQB automobile platform and sports an impressive road clearance. Its design philosophy is more or less consistent with that of the Vision X Concept. The two cars share the same radiator grille, rear diffuser, spoiler, LED headlights with integrated DRLs at the top, and dynamic turn blinkers.
Optionally available are wheel sets up to 18 inches large, bottom guards, and sports suspension with adjustable shock absorbers.
Interior features include a 10.25-inch digital cockpit, a multimedia system with a touchscreen display (available in sizes ranging from 6.5 to 9.2 inches), various trims (microfiber included), a Wi-Fi hotspot, satellite navigation etc.
Driver aids include adaptive cruise control, parking assist, back-up camera, automatic emergency brake, lane control, speed limiter, and pedestrian detection.
The engine lineup comprises a 1.0-liter TSI gasoline engine available in 95 and 115 hp (71 / 86 kW) versions, a 1.5-liter engine rated at 150 hp (112 kW), and a 1.6-liter diesel churning out 115 hp (86 kW). Several markets will get access to a CNG-powered variant of the Kamiq (90 hp / 67 kW). Transmission choices will include 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual, and 7-speed semi-automatic.
The car will arrive in the fall of 2019. Once out on the market, it will primarily have to compete against the Renault Captur, Nissan Juke, and Hyundai Kona.
