Skoda Enyaq RS iV sets two drift records at once

Skoda has announced that its electric Enyaq RS iV set two Guinness Book records: one for the longest continuous drift on ice among EVs, the other for the same achievement among all vehicles.

The car was driven along a closed course improvised on the frozen surface of Lake Stortjärnen in Sweden. The course was 188.5 meters (618.4 feet) long, and the driver was able to stay in an uninterrupted slide for 39 whole laps.

A representative of the Guinness Book of Records recorded a continuous drift 7,351 meters (4.56 miles) long. The previous record of 6,231 meters (3.87 miles) was set in China last year. The whole attempt took 16 minutes, with the car accelerating to 48.7 km/h (30.3 mph).

Before the award-winning run, multiple drivers had spent a great deal of time experimenting with different combinations of tires and drive modes. Over five days of testing, the battery SUV spent 18 hours whirring around on the lake. The record was ultimately set on January 19 – two weeks ago – but only disclosed to the public today.
