The graduates of the Skoda Auto School in Mladá Boleslav, Czech Republic, have revealed a rally raid-ready version of the Skoda Kamiq that they created for their graduation project.
Dubbed the Afriq, the vehicle draws inspiration from the classical Dakar Rally, which used to take place on that continent, and pays homage to the fact that Skoda controls all Volkswagen brand activity in that region.
Like the rally-prepped Skoda Fabia from before, the concept SUV features a rugged body kit, special headlights and a roof vent. Many of the interior parts are also identical between the two. Powering the Afriq is a Skoda Octavia TFSI engine rated at 190 PS (187 hp / 140 kW), which drives all four wheels.
The one place where the project stands out from the crowd is the on-board water generator. The appliance condenses moisture from the air and subjects it to multiple stages of purification before serving it as pure water – needless to say, this would come in handy if you got stuck in the midst of the desert.
