Kodiaq TDI vs. Wrangler TFSI: An unusual drag race

A Jeep Wrangler raced a Skoda Kodiaq RS on a quarter-mile long track in Great Britain. To think this was yet another predictable drag race would be a mistake, though.

It is true that on paper, the two contenders share much in common: both pack AWD, two-liter turbocharged engines, automatic or semi-auto transmissions, and so on. However, the differences are still there.

First off, the Wrangler is a no-nonsense SUV, whereas the Kodiaq is a soft-roading CUV. Second – and perhaps most importantly – the Jeep comes equipped with a gasoline powertrain rated at 276 hp (206 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque, while the Kodiaq RS packs a twin-turbo diesel with 243 hp (181 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft).

SPOILER ALERT: the cars finished the 402-meter-long distance almost simultaneously. The Skoda Kodiaq RS came first in 14.8s, and the Jeep Wrangler crossed the line 0.2 seconds later.
