Skoda Kushaq hits market in India

The compact crossover SUV has been designed specifically for Indian roads and drivers, but might make it across the border someday, Skoda says.

There are several trim levels to choose from. The most basic one begins at 1,049,000 Rupees and includes an AC, a couple of airbags, a rear parking sensor and a reversing camera, and a six-inch multimedia display.

Higher trims introduce buyers to a full-fledged HVAC, leather finish, front seat ventilation and LED headlights. Prices go from 1,759,000 Rupees upwards.

Gasoline engines are available in 1.0L and 1.5L versions with six-speed manual and automatic transmission options. A seven-speed DSG is also obtainable, but the drive will stay on the front axle no matter what you opt for.

The production will take place in Pune, India, with up to 95% of components made locally. Like all other Skoda crossover names, the Kushaq starts with a ‘K’ and ends with a ‘Q’. It means ‘king’ or ‘emperor’ in Sanskrit.
