Car Throttle restores Skoda Octavia with 700,000 km on odometer

The authors of the YouTube channel Car Throttle have set out to prove to the whole world that old, used cars may still be of good service to their owners if properly maintained. They have managed to find a first-edition Skoda Octavia that had traveled around 700,000 kilometers (435,000 miles) and did a complete restoration job.

The liftback has received new suspension components, brakes, different bumpers, a new radiator grille, fresh wheels, and black body accents. The old interior finishing has been scrapped for a new one taken straight from the latest top-trim Octavia RS. Among other things, the car now has door cards, new seats and more decorative elements throughout.

Impressively enough, the car still remained in running condition after all that usage. A month ago, before the restoration even began, this particular Skoda Octavia traveled from London to the Nürburgring Circuit in Germany, demonstrating some amazing fuel efficiency. It has covered the distance of nearly 1,300 kilometers (800 miles) without a single refueling, only expending 3.3 liters of fuel per 100 km on average. That would mean 85 MPG in Great Britain or 71 MPG in the USA – quite a feat, to say the least.

The Car Throttle team has emphasized that the liftback was in great technical condition. All of its units and parts were still functional, with only occasional specks of rust on the chassis.

After the extensive restoration, the Czech vehicle is certainly going to serve its owner well another decade or two.
