Skoda Scala runs topless in the Skoda Academy

The students’ team of the Skoda Academy is working on its seventh major project: a roadster conversion of the Scala hatchback.

The work has only just begun, and all the participants have to show right now are these early sketches and concept pics. Apparently, the intention is to strip the Scala of its roof and rear door while giving it dual wind deflectors and a single hexagonal exhaust pipe located in the middle of the rear bumper. New wheels, body kit, and cabin trim elements are also possible.

Two dozen students work on the unique concept car assisted by Skoda engineers and designers, including Chief Designer Oliver Stefani himself. The vehicle should be finished and ready to premiere by early June.

Last year, students from the same academy spent eight months turning a Skoda Kodiaq SUV into a pickup truck called Mountiaq (watch the video for details). They reinforced the body, removed the roof and designed a new rear panel complete with glass. They also raised the clearance by 10 cm (4”) to the total 29 cm (11.3”) and expanded the wheel span by 3 cm (1.2”) thanks to new 17-inch Rockstar II wheels.

The academy’s earlier projects included a Karoq Cabriolet, a Citigo Two-Seater, a Fabia Pickup, a Rapid Spaceback, and a Citigo Electric Buggy.
