Skoda reveals details on Superb PHEV, schedules premiere for 2019

The Swedish car brand Skoda has announced the release of a hybrid modification of its Superb family car, named Skoda Superb PHEV, in 2019. According to an inside source, the vehicle will make use of the same gasoline engine currently installed on the latest Volkswagen Passat GTE for its hybrid drivetrain.

We’re talking about a plug-in hybrid unit consisting of a 1.4L gasoline engine with 154 hp and an electric motor with 114 hp. It should have an all-electric driving range of around 70 kilometers (43. miles) – considerably better than the 50 km (31 mi) of the Volkswagen Passat GTE. The car’s actual road performance remains to be seen, though.

Remarkably, the new Skoda Superb PHEV is reported to only need 1.6 liters of gasoline per 100 kilometers. That’s a whopping 176.5 miles per gallon if you live in the US, or 147 if you are in Great Britain.
