Smart unveils the final IC-engined car series

Starting in 2020, car manufacturer Smart will make a permanent switch to the production of all-electric vehicles. To mark the going of the internal combustion engine era, the company will release a final series of cars equipped with the regular gasoline engines. Famous tuner shop Brabus and renowned industrial designer Konstantin Grcic will participate in designing the series.

The Smart #21 Collector’s Edition consists of 21 cars, a reference to the number of years gone since the first Smart vehicle rolled off the assembly line.

The farewell batch sports a unique paintjob reminiscent of that of the early Smart models. Note the uneven distribution of the yellow paint across the body. Apparently, this was an idea of visual artist Roman Signer, who ran every car through a tunnel and sprayed paint at them randomly as they went by.

The production should be complete by late summer 2019, the manufacturer reports. Prices will be announced later.
