Carscoops has shared a pair of images allegedly showing the production-ready Smart SUV model designed by Geely-Daimler JV. The car is wrapped, but looks little different from the Concept #1 that debuted at the IAA Munich last fall (see video).
The photos were taken in China, where Smart intends to produce all of its new cars in the coming years. The company will then sell them domestically, in Western Europe, and possibly other countries as well. As a side note, ‘Smart SUV’ is a temporary name that may change before production.
Judging by the leaked images, the production car sports a curvy body, a quasi-hovering roof and a red LED strip spanning the entire rear end. Unlike the concept, it has regular doors instead of suicide doors.
In terms of size, the upcoming crossover SUV should be close to the concept’s 4,290 mm, 1,910 mm and 1,698 mm L/W/H. Power specifics remain a mystery at this time, but there is no doubt that the model will be electric.
The premiere is expected in 2023.
