Daimler and Geely decided to reboot the Smart brand a few years ago and started with the unveiling of an SUV EV concept named simply “Number One”. The premiere date was never mentioned, but German publication named MB Passion reports that it will take place in the beginning of the next month.
Once the #1 debuts, the company will set to work on another, larger electric crossover. Both will be offered in Europe and China. MB Passion claims it has early and so far unconfirmed information about the powertrain. According to it, both cars will be powered by a single electric motor installed on the rear axle and rated at 200 PS (197 hp / 147 kW). Batteries will allegedly max out at 60 kWh, which should be enough to cover up to 430 km (267 miles) on a charge.
The Smart Concept #1 stretches 4.29 meters (167 inches) long, making it comparable to the latest Mini Countryman. The latter will also have an electric version, making the two direct rivals.
