The Ministry of Industry and IT of China has posted images of a new Smart EV from its database that the company never announced. According to CarNewsChina, the Smart #3 is a crossover SUV sized larger than the #1 model but coming with the same powertrain options to the market.
The exterior of the car is styled in the same vein as the Smart #1 (see video), but tweaked proportions lend the #3 a more dynamic appearance. At 4,400 mm long, 1,844 mm wide and 1,556 mm tall with 2,785 between the axles, the SUV is 130 mm longer and 80 mm less tall than the #1. Its wheelbase is only marginally (+35 mm) longer, though.
Like the Smart #1, the model was co-designed between Mercedes-Benz and Geely based on the unitized SEA platform. In its most basic specification, it is expected to ship with a single rear-axle motor and 272 PS (268 hp / 200 kW). A range-topping Brabus spec will offer 428 PS (422 hp / 315 kW) coming from dual motors.
The electric range remains to be revealed. It is also unknown when the sales will start and what the Smart #2 might be like to warrant skipping that number for now.
