2020 Smart ForFour spotted testing on public roads

Smart has begun testing a facelifted version of its ForFour all-electric city car, its first vehicle to be released after the permanent switch to electric power previously announced by the Daimler-owned brand.

The spy pictures were taken somewhere in Germany. The new ForFour has little to tell it from its predecessor, with the general outlines, dimensions and stylistic features still in place. There are slight changes in the front fascia layout, possibly a redesigned radiator grille and maybe a new front apron with reshaped air intakes. The brake lights may also change their pattern, but that is about it.

The currently available ForFour Electric Drive comes equipped with a 55-hp (41-kW) motor that can be temporarily boosted to 82 hp (61 kW). A 17.6 kWh traction battery converts into around 150 kilometers (~93 miles) of driving range. The facelift is generally expected to improve upon all of these figures.
