The South Korean carmaker faced bankruptcy late last year, but it looks like things are slowly improving: here’s what SsangYong intends to do in the next few years.
Going forward, the company will focus exclusively on producing all-electric cars, the first of which – the Korando e-Motion – is ready to hit the assembly lines. The model is largely based on the regular Korando SUV (see video) that debuted two years ago, except only for a solid front panel instead of the grille and some added blue accents. Technical specifications remain unknown.
The production will start in August, and SsangYong says Europe will be the primary market. South Korea will be getting it later, when the worldwide microchip shortage crisis blows over.
Along with this announcement, the company teased a second EV so far only known as the J100, a masculine-looking mid-size SUV scheduled for launch in a year’s time. A few more crossovers and pickup trucks should complement the manufacturer’s range in the coming years, too.
