KPVM, a local TV channel in Pahrump, Nevada, reported a world speed record allegedly set by the newest hypercar – the SSC Tuatara – on the State Route 160. The reporter’s claim that SSC managed to dethrone the Koenigsegg Agera RS remains without official comment.
You may remember that three years ago, Swedish automaker Koenigsegg took its Agera RS hypercar out for an acceleration test. The vehicle packed a five-liter twin-turbo V8 boosted to 1,360 PS (1,341 hp / 1,000 kW) and 1,371 Nm (1,011 lb-ft) of torque. It managed to hit 437 km/h (271.5 mph) during the first run and 457 km/h (284 mph) during the second, averaging 447 km/h (277.8 mph) – the history’s best result among road-legal production cars.
Now, reports are coming in that the SSC Tuatara struck 483 km/h (300 mph). Its 5.9-liter twin-turbo V8 and two fuel injectors per cylinder makes 1,369 PS (1,350 hp / 1,007 kW) when tanked with regular gasoline and up to 1,774 PS (1,750 hp / 1,305 kW) when given the E85 mix as fuel. It uses an Automac Engineering 7-G DCT to accelerate 0-60 mph in 2.5 seconds, covers a quarter of a mile in 9.75s and can theoretically reach as high as 312 mph (502 km/h).
We will post an update if we hear more from SSC.
