Subaru announces Impreza STI, Forester STI

According to an official announcement, car manufacturer Subaru will attend the next Tokyo Auto Salon with sportier versions of its Impreza compact hatchback and Forester SUV. Both will eventually hit production under the ‘STI’ label.

The company says both cars will get a number of design improvements over the original series while keeping most of their tech intact.

The Subaru Forester STI Concept hot performance brakes, new 19-inch wheels, a sport-grade suspension, an aero kit consisting of flaps, canards and a rear spoiler, and numerous green highlights outside and inside. It will go into series equipped with a hybrid drivetrain including a 2.0L gasoline engine rated at 145 hp (108 kW) and an electric motor contributing another 14 hp (10 kW).

The Subaru Impreza STI Concept will debut with new 10-spoke wheels and an advanced exhaust system opening into two central tailpipes. Compared to the existing Impreza series, it will get a black roof, black mirror caps and decorative bumper/sill plate inserts. Novelty in the cabin will be limited to new seat/door upholstery. It will ship with a naturally-aspirated 2.0L engine capable of producing up to 156 hp (116 kW).
