Subaru will soon reveal its first EV, the Solterra. We knew it would be technically identical to the all-electric Toyota BZ4X, but new teasers suggest the similarities will extend farther than that.
The two cars look so much alike, you will be forgiven for mistaking one for the other. The only differences we can spot are the roof, which is black for contrast on the BZ4X, and the fenders, which are matte on one car and glossy on the other.
As if that weren’t enough, interior pics prove that the cabin is also completely identical to that of the Toyota EV. Among other things, the digital dash gauges reside quite far from the steering wheel and hover above the front fascia, just like in the BZ4X. The same applies to the large infotainment display.
It remains to be seen what powertrains and batteries the Toyota and the Subaru will ship with. However, Subaru let it slip that the Solterra would have electric AWD, i.e. one motor per axle.
Both the BZ4X and its clone are set to go on sale next year, which means their premieres are coming soon.
