In our opinion, the world could use more videos of the Subaru BRZ competing against the Mazda MX-5. A recent YouTube video shows the two Japanese sports cars pitting their strengths against each other in six drag strip runs.
The Subaru inches out a moderate advantage on paper. Its 2.4-liter flat-four engine yields 231 PS (228 hp / 170 kW) and 249 Nm (182 lb-ft) of torque. In contrast, the Mazda manages only 183 PS (180 hp / 135 kW) and 205 Nm (151 lb-ft) of torque. Both are stick-shift, but the Mazda weighs around 180 kilos (400 pounds) less, so the power-to-weight ratio is actually nearly the same between the two.
The competition included three standing races and three rolling races from 50 km/h, or 31 mph. Most wins went to one and the same car, but it had a hard time keeping up.
