The second generation of the Subaru BRZ saw the daylight in 2020 and has since been receiving annual updates on its domestic market of Japan. Some of us expected it to change more meaningfully heading into 2027, but what the company announced earlier this week was yet another mild facelift.
The exterior of the sporty coupe stayed largely unchanged from the previous iteration (see video). The main highlight inside is a new lever for the six-speed manual transmission said to allow for smoother shifts. The ADS package was updated with new cameras used by the emergency brake system. Subaru claims side-on collisions are much more reliably avoided with these new optics.
The old-and-proven 2.4-liter flat-four stayed under the hood with its usual 235 PS (232 hp / 173 kW) and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque. Buyers are choosing between the six-speed manual mentioned above and a six-speed automatic. The drive stays on the rear wheels with no AWD option.
Prices in Japan start from ¥3,377,000, which roughly translates into U.S. $21,200.
