Subaru Europe has made a press release confirming that the automaker’s first all-electric vehicle is slated for premiere in the first half of the new decade.
The newcomer will be comparable to the Forester and come based on the Toyota e-TNGA platform designed specifically for battery vehicles. Toyota should unveil its first mid-size SUV based on that platform (see video) next year.
Rumor has it that Subaru will produce a clone of that SUV, and will name it “Evoltis”. We probably won’t know for sure until next year, though.
Subaru never produced any EVs before, but its e-Boxer series mild hybrids – including the Forester, the Impreza and the XV – are responsible for 60 percent of its total sales in Europe, so the ground isn’t exactly new or unexplored. There is also the Crosstrek PHEV, which utilizes Toyota powertrain components and is available in the United States.
