6th-gen Subaru Forester debuts in Los Angeles

Subaru is attending the ongoing Los Angeles Auto Show with the sixth generation of its Forester SUV. The model has avoided major tech updates while receiving an overhauled exterior and interior. Sales in the USA are scheduled to begin next spring.

The exterior design in particular is completely new with numerous air vents in the trim and headlights overlapping new, boxy fenders. Inside, an 11.6-inch, portrait-oriented infotainment display has appeared, but the dashboard has stayed analog. The classic transmission selector is likewise still in place. Subaru offers new trim materials and special ribbed inserts designed to slow down material wear.

In the United States, the SUV will go on sale with a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engine capable of 183 PS (180 hp / 135 kW) and 241 Nm (178 lb-ft) of torque. Subaru says it has tweaked the ECU and re-calibrated the steering and the CVT. All-wheel-drive is already included in all specs, and the X-Mode package for off-road driving is provided in all trim levels except the most basic one.

A hybrid variant of the 2024 Subaru Forester will arrive later, the company says.
