Subaru plans to introduce an all-electric replacement for the Forester SUV next year, BestCarWeb claims quoting unofficial sources. The company hopes to be making 400,000 EVs per year by the end 2028, so it could be true.
According to the report, the alleged Forester EV is being envisioned with 700 km (435 miles) of rang on a charge. Interestingly, we are told that the company plans to develop it in a standalone manner instead of borrowing the base from Toyota. Subaru’s only EV on the market so far – the Solterra seen in the gallery and the video here – runs on Toyota’s e-TNGA chassis and is essentially just a rebadged bZ4X model.
Moving forward, the company plans to add two more electric crossovers to its lineup aside from the Forester EV. Rumor has it that one of these will be a seven-seater sized slightly larger than the Forester EV and the other one will be a successor-of-sorts to the current Crosstrek.
The production will allegedly be localized in Japan. By 2026, Subaru plans to update its factory in Yajima so that it can make 200,000 EVs per year. A couple of years later, a similar upgrade is scheduled to take place at the factory in Oizumi.
