Subaru has brought a new version of its Forester SUV to the Chicago Auto Show. It is called Wilderness and is slated to go on sale in the USA in the fall.
The differences are largely the same as in the previous generation: some exterior trim and suspension improvements. The latter benefits from new shocks and springs raising the ground clearance above 230 mm (9 inches). Subaru claims the added ride height doesn’t just facilitate off-roading, but also adds comfort on rough terrain. For the wheels, the Wilderness spec uses 17-inch rims wrapped in off-road tires.
On the outside, the SUV wears a rugged body kit with new bumpers and fender flares. It has recovery eyes and roof rails rated to support 360 kilos (795 lbs) of static load. Moisture-resistant trim and bronze accents sum up changes in the cabin.
In the United States, the Forester will continue to be available exclusively with a 180-PS (178-hp / 132-kW) petrol engine. Subaru promises to fine-tune the CVT and the electronic systems in the Wilderness spec for an improved driving experience.
