Subaru has come to the Chicago Auto Show with the sixth generation of its Forester SUV packing the same hybrid powertrain as the XT/Crosstrek.
Compared to its ICE cousin, the Forester Hybrid consumes 40% less gas in urban areas and 25% in mixed-cycle scenarios, Subaru claims. Its all-electric range remains to be revealed, but the total range with the tank and the battery maxed out comes to 935 kilometers, or 581 miles.
The U.S. spec will go on sale with a 2.5-liter Atkinson-cycle petrol engine rated at 162 PS (160 hp / 120 kW). An electric motor teams up with it for an additional 118 PS (116 hp / 87 kW). The combined output is capped at 194 PS (191 hp / 143 kW), which is less than the individual ratings of the motors but still more than the ICE car’s 180 PS (178 hp / 132 kW).
A Lineartronic CVT sends the torque to all four wheels via a mechanical 4WD setup.
Customers in the United States will be choosing from four trim levels priced from $35,000 to $41,700.
