The Subaru Impreza 22B STi sports car came out 23 years ago in a limited run of just 426 units. The example you see here just went under the hammer for an eye-watering U.S. $312,555. What makes it so special?
In short, the 22B STi is an expensive road-legal conversion of a racecar. As such, it comes clad in a WRX type-RA widebody kit that makes it 80 mm (3.125 inches) broader and rocks an adjustable rear wing.
The coupes had initially only been available in Japan, but the example number 156 went to the United States last summer with only around 40,000 km (24,850 miles) on the clock.
The car is in an excellent overall condition, retaining its original World Rally Blue finish and riding on 17-inch gold-tinted BBS wheels. Some OEM parts have been replaced, though.
A 2.2-liter turbocharged flat engine drives the wheels with 280 PS (276 hp / 206 kW) and 356 Nm (263 lb-ft) through a five-speed manual transmission.
