In other times, Think Flight was a YouTube channel dedicated to aeronautics, but it seems that rising gas prices switched its attention to land transports. In the video below, we’ll see how a Subaru Impreza hatchback can be made to lower its fuel requirements.
The author uses his knowledge of aerodynamics and drag reduction measures to devise a massive rear cowling for the Impreza. He then proceeds to apply it using cheap and readily available materials like duct tape, cardboard, Styrofoam, GG4 glue, and so on.
In the end, the fuel savings amount to 13 percent compared to stock. You can see the author visibly underwhelmed, but if you asked us, we’d say it isn’t too bad for a first attempt on what already is a decently optimized mass-market vehicle. As Think Flight himself admits, adding a front splitter, side skirts and a bottom deflector or cowl may double the savings. We are looking forward to more videos!
